ISLAMABAD: Intense clashes erupted in Islamabad as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters and security forces clashed throughout the day, leading to violent confrontations in the capital’s high-security Red Zone. The PTI supporters, armed with sticks, slingshots, and gas masks, engaged in a fierce standoff with police forces. Protesters managed to move some containers at D-Chowk using ropes and overturned others, while hurling stones and targeting police with slingshots. The situation escalated as the protesters continued to challenge the security forces’ presence.
In response, Pakistan Rangers were deployed to the scene and swiftly cleared D-Chowk, pushing the protesters further back. Police and Rangers then focused on clearing Jinnah Avenue, forcing the demonstrators to move beyond Khyber Plaza.
During the violent protests, four law enforcement officers—both Rangers and police personnel—were martyred, while more than 100 others sustained injuries. The clashes reflect the growing tensions in Islamabad as PTI supporters continue their demonstration against the government.
