Lahore : A Lahore anti-terrorism court has reserved its decision on former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s bail applications in connection with eight cases from the May 9 incidents.

During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, appeared before Judge Manzoor Ali Gill of the Anti-Terrorism Court. The lawyer presented his arguments, stating that the public’s reaction to Imran Khan’s statements had been exaggerated and misrepresented. He further noted that he had represented Imran Khan in over 240 cases, highlighting that a range of charges had been brought against the PTI leader. According to Safdar, there was no section of the law that hadn’t been invoked against his client in the various cases.

Barrister Safdar pointed out that the “cypher case” had even reached the Supreme Court, while the remaining cases had been granted relief in lower courts. He also mentioned that in approximately 30 cases, rulings had been made against the government, and he was presenting around 25 of these decisions to the court.

The lawyer criticized the inconsistent approach of the government, pointing out contradictory statements regarding the nature of the alleged conspiracy. He further noted that Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, had been implicated in 12 cases, with charges suggesting her involvement in the supposed conspiracy.

Safdar stressed that his plea was not for a discharge or dismissal of the cases, which the court could not entertain, but for the granting of bail, given that his client had been in custody for a prolonged period.

The court has reserved its judgment on the bail pleas and will announce a decision at a later date.
