Kelly Clarkson recently opened up about how her children, son Remy, 8, and daughter River, 10, are not exactly thrilled about the idea of their mom dating again. The 42-year-old singer and talk show host shared her children’s constant disapproval of her romantic life during an interview with KOST 103.5, admitting that they’ve expressed a desire for her to remain single.
She acknowledged that her kids have a hard time imagining their mom with someone other than their father, her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares custody of Remy and River.
While Clarkson is embracing her single status, she made it clear that she won’t let her children’s wishes dictate her personal life. “I’ve told them, ‘I love you, but Mommy needs love too,'” she said, adding that it’s important for her to find happiness, even if that means dating again in the future.
Clarkson’s divorce from Blackstock in 2020 was a challenging time for her children, and she has previously shared how the split impacted their emotional well-being. In a 2023 interview on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast, Clarkson spoke about her commitment to checking in with her kids about their feelings, especially as they navigate the changes in their family dynamic.
