ISLAMABAD: During a police operation in Islamabad, key Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) figures, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI leader Bushra Bibi, managed to flee the scene in vehicles, with a number of supporters also scattering.
According to Geo News Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi were in cars near the Kulsoom Plaza area in Blue Area, surrounded by a small group of PTI protesters. While their convoy dispersed, there are reports that Bushra Bibi may be detained, with a women’s squad reportedly being dispatched to take her into custody.
Meanwhile, security forces continued their crackdown on PTI protesters near Khyber Chowk in Blue Area, detaining several demonstrators, while others managed to escape.
Rangers intervened and cleared the area around D-Chowk, pushing protesters back, and both the police and Rangers successfully cleared the protest from Jinnah Avenue, forcing demonstrators further towards the Khyber Plaza area.
Throughout the day, PTI supporters clashed with police forces in Islamabad’s Red Zone, with ongoing skirmishes disrupting the protest.
