NEWYORK: Auli’i Cravalho, who voices Moana in the upcoming Moana 2, says the character is more than just a princess—she’s a hero. Cravalho explained that Moana represents a modern-day heroine, showing young women as leaders of their own stories.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cravalho emphasized that while Moana is a princess, she is also a strong hero who doesn’t fit the typical Disney princess mold. “You most likely won’t see Moana in a ballgown,” she said, featuring the person’s freedom.

In Moana 2, the character ages for the first time in Disney history, with Cravalho noting her voice and songs have evolved as well. The movie features a star-studded cast including Dwayne Johnson, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Scherzinger.

The sequel has already made waves, earning $13.8 million in preview screenings, the biggest opening for Disney Animation to date.
