ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, has announced the postponement of the remaining two 50-over matches of the Pakistan Shaheens-Sri Lanka ‘A’ series due to ongoing political unrest in Islamabad.
The final two matches, originally scheduled for Wednesday and Friday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, have been delayed as both boards work to finalize new dates for the completion of the series.
Pakistan Shaheens currently lead the series 1-0, having won both of the earlier four-day matches and the first 50-over game by 108 runs.
The decision to postpone the matches comes amid escalating violence in Islamabad, where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters, led by Imran Khan’s wife and senior PTI leaders, have clashed with law enforcement agencies. The protesters have been demanding the release of their detained leader, among other political demands.
In response to the unrest, the Interior Ministry issued a notification invoking Article 245, granting the military the authority to assist in restoring order and handling the situation with force if necessary. The notification also allows the imposition of curfews in areas where required to control lawlessness.
