Mexico City: Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark was crowned Miss Universe 2024 at the 73rd edition of the prestigious beauty pageant, which took place on Saturday at the Mexico City Arena. At 20 years old, Theilvig made history by becoming the first Danish woman to win the coveted title, competing against more than 120 contestants from across the globe.
The official Miss Universe social media account congratulated her on the achievement, stating, “A new era begins! Congratulations to Denmark, our 73rd Miss Universe. May your reign inspire and empower women worldwide. #73MissUniverseCompetition.”
Inspired by watching international pageants like Miss Universe, she set her sights on becoming a beauty queen when she was just five years old. Victoria competed in Miss Denmark and placed as the second runner-up at 17. In 2022, she represented Denmark at Miss Grand International and finished in the Top 20.
Crowned Miss Universe Denmark in September 2024, just two months before the global event, Theilvig is also academically accomplished. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing and has worked in the jewellery industry, focusing on diamond sales. With plans to pursue a law degree, she aspires to attend Harvard University.
Victoria is a former professional dancer with experience competing in European and World Championships. She also teaches dance and is a vocal advocate for mental health, having survived abuse and trauma from a dysfunctional family. As a passionate animal lover, she volunteers at a local animal shelter in her community.
In the competition, the first runner-up title went to Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria, while Maria Fernanda Beltran from Mexico secured the second runner-up position.
