WALES: A woman in Wales has thrown away her ex-boyfriend’s Bitcoin fortune, worth billions of dollars, and now he is on a mission to find it.
James Howells, a computer engineer, had stored 8,000 Bitcoins on a hard drive back in 2013. At that time, Bitcoin was not as valuable, but today those Bitcoins are worth a staggering $760 million.
The problem started when James’ ex-girlfriend, Hafina Eddy Evans, unknowingly threw the hard drive into a landfill in Newport, Wales. She didn’t realize the hard drive contained valuable Bitcoin data and discarded it because James had asked her to help with cleaning out their belongings, which included the old laptop.
Now, James is fighting a legal battle with the local council to clean up the landfill and find the missing hard drive. He believes it is still there, buried under over 110,000 tons of trash.
James has even promised to donate 10% of the found treasure to the local community, if he is able to recover the hard drive. However, the Newport City Council has rejected his requests to search the landfill, citing environmental concerns and risks of excavation.
James is determined to retrieve the lost Bitcoin fortune, despite the challenges, and hopes to find the treasure buried under tons of waste.
