Madison: A 15-year-old student opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, killing two.
The shooter, identified as Natalie Rupnow, fatally shot a teacher and a teenager inside a study hall.
Six others were injured, including two students in critical condition, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes.
Police responded swiftly after a second grader called 911 during the attack, leading officers to the scene.
Rupnow, found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, died while being transported to the hospital, officials confirmed.
Abundant Life Christian School, a pre-K through high school institution, has around 420 students enrolled.
Barbara Wiers, the school’s director, stated the lockdown response was not a drill and shook the entire community.
While the school lacks metal detectors, it uses security cameras and other precautionary measures, officials said.
A motive for the shooting has yet to be determined, and it is unclear if victims were targeted.
Police are interviewing Rupnow’s family, who are cooperating with authorities, as investigations into the tragic event continue.
Madison Police Chief Barnes expressed concern about the unknown reasons behind the attack, stressing the need for answers.
