NEWYORK: Florence Pugh has opened up about why she decided to freeze her eggs at 27, revealing that a surprising fertility diagnosis led her to take action.
The 28-year-old actress, known for roles in Oppenheimer and Little Women, shared her story on the SHE MD podcast, explaining that she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis—two conditions that can impact fertility.
Pugh said she had a “worry” last summer and, after getting checked out, learned that she needed to freeze her eggs sooner than expected, it was a bit of a mind-boggling realization.
The actress also reflected on her family’s history of fertility, noting that her mother and grandmother had children well into their forties. She admitted she never thought she would face fertility challenges herself.
In her conversation with podcast hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, who diagnosed her, Pugh expressed concern over the lack of awareness around fertility issues, particularly for young women. “We should be having these conversations when we start our periods,” she said, hoping her openness will help others avoid discovering their conditions too late.
