WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the United States had no prior knowledge of South Korea’s president declaring martial law.
In an interview with a Reuters , Blinken emphasized that South Korea is one of the world’s strongest democracies. He stressed the importance of resolving political disputes in South Korea peacefully and in accordance with the rule of law.
Blinken also mentioned that he is expected to have talks with South Korea’s foreign minister in the coming days.
The move by South Korea’s president to impose martial law was quickly overturned by the country’s parliament and cabinet just hours later, according to reports.
