LONDON: A Buckingham Palace staff member was arrested following a violent outburst at a bar in Victoria, London, on Tuesday evening. Police were called to the scene after a Christmas celebration among around 50 palace employees turned disruptive. The woman arrested, a 24-year-old maid, was reportedly involved in a brawl and has been taken into custody, facing multiple charges.
Assault and Damage Charges Following Aggressive Behavior
According to the Metropolitan Police, the woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, and being drunk and disorderly. The altercation escalated when the woman became aggressive, allegedly smashing glasses and assaulting a member of the bar staff. After spending the night in a police cell, she was later released on a penalty notice for disorderly behavior. The incident, which occurred after an informal drinks gathering post-reception at Buckingham Palace, has raised concerns about the conduct of royal staff during the festive season.
Investigation Underway as Buckingham Palace Mourns Disruption
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated that an internal investigation was underway. Although the drinks at the bar were not an official royal event, they followed an earlier palace reception. The spokesperson also clarified that the gathering was an informal staff get-together, not an organized palace event. The Palace has warned that disciplinary action may follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.
The Metropolitan Police responded to the disturbance at approximately 9:21 PM, after which they detained the woman and took her into custody. Authorities confirmed that the situation is under full investigation, with officers gathering evidence and working to address any further developments.
Despite this not being the first time palace employees have been involved in controversy, this particular incident has highlighted the tensions surrounding the behavior of palace staff. A spokesperson for the Palace added that a thorough disciplinary process would follow to address the matter accordingly.
In light of the holidays, the behavior of those working within Buckingham Palace has become a focus of public interest. This event has brought renewed attention to the conduct and actions of royal employees, especially during festive periods marked by informal gatherings and celebrations.
