Parachinar: Fierce clashes between tribes in Kurram district have entered their 11th day, leaving 6 more people dead and 8 injured.
According to police, the violence has now resulted in 130 deaths and 186 injuries.
The fighting has also led to the closure of key roads, including the main Peshawar-Parachinar highway.
The road closures have caused a severe shortage of fuel, food, and medicines.
Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud said that police and security forces have been deployed at various locations in Kurram district , and efforts will be made to establish a ceasefire in the region today.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, addressed a grand jirga (tribal council) in Kohat. He urged the people of Kurram to remain peaceful and said that the government is ready to go to any lengths to restore peace. He emphasized that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are proud and peaceful, and the government is committed to maintaining law and order.
The Chief Minister also instructed the district administration and police to dismantle the opposing groups’ positions, resettle displaced people quickly, and compensate for any losses. He ordered that all weapons in the area be seized and kept by the authorities until peace is restored.
Ali Amin Gandapur also ordered legal action against those spreading unrest on social media, and called for a ceasefire between the fighting parties, urging them to abide by previous peace agreements.
He stressed that peace cannot be restored without the cooperation of the people, and that the government will work to regain the public’s trust.
