A fire erupted at Rimpa Plaza on Karachi’s M.A. Jinnah Road, prompting rescue teams to respond swiftly. Rescue 1122 deployed ambulances, fire trucks, and a snorkel to tackle the blaze, which started on the building’s fourth floor. The plaza, housing various godowns, offices, and shops, experienced heavy smoke, complicating evacuation efforts due to poor ventilation.

Karachi Traffic Police diverted vehicles away from the blocked M.A. Jinnah Road, causing congestion.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered an investigation into the incident, highlighting fire safety concerns in the city.

Escalating Fire Risks in Karachi

The incident underscores Karachi’s recurring fire safety issues. A KMC audit revealed that none of 265 inspected commercial buildings had proper fire safety certifications.

Many lacked fire alarms and functioning firefighting equipment, with subpar electrical systems cited as a significant hazard.

Efforts are underway to enhance safety standards, but repeated incidents highlight the urgent need for regulatory enforcement and better preparedness to prevent such tragedies.
