ATHENS: A boat carrying migrants capsized near a southern Greek island, leaving five people dead and dozens missing. Among the 39 survivors rescued so far, the majority are reportedly from Pakistan, according to authorities.

Greek coast guard officials stated that rescue operations are ongoing, with many individuals still unaccounted for. The exact number of people aboard the vessel at the time of the incident remains unknown.

The survivors, rescued by nearby cargo ships, were transported to the island of Crete for further assistance.

In separate incidents on Saturday, a Maltese cargo ship rescued 47 migrants from a different vessel, while a tanker saved 88 individuals approximately 28 nautical miles south of a small Greek island.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the boats likely departed from Libya together. Efforts to locate the missing migrants continue as part of the extensive search and rescue operation.
