RAWALPINDI:Â Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been arrested in connection with seven new cases related to the recent protests. These cases are linked to incidents that took place on September 28, October 5, and November 24.
The additional cases involve charges related to violence during the protests, which saw clashes between PTI supporters and law enforcement agencies. Imran Khan’s arrest marks a further escalation of legal action against him following the unrest sparked by his removal from office.
The hearings took place at Adiala Jail. During the hearing, the prosecution did not request physical remand for Imran Khan, but instead, the court sent him to jail on judicial remand in all seven cases.
This means that instead of being sent to police custody, Khan will remain in prison while the legal process continues. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which the authorities are handling the cases related to the violent protests that have rocked the country in recent months.
LEGAL TEAM AND SUPPORTERS
Imran Khan’s legal team is expected to challenge these additional cases, as they have in the past. His supporters argue that the charges are politically motivated and aimed at silencing the opposition leader. Khan’s arrest is likely to further intensify the political crisis in the country, as PTI workers continue to protest against his detention and the government’s actions.
BACKGROUND
This is not the first time Khan has faced legal challenges since his removal from office in April 2022. He has been at the center of several legal battles and his arrest is likely to increase tensions between PTI and the ruling government.
The cases against Imran Khan are expected to continue to unfold, with further hearings scheduled in the coming weeks. Political observers are closely watching these developments, as they could have significant implications for Pakistan’s political landscape.
