PATNA: Unique and strange incidents often come to light in India, and one such incident occurred in Patna, Bihar, where a government school teacher was abducted and forced to marry a woman at gunpoint.

According to Indian media reports, Unish Kumar, a resident of Patna, had recently cleared competitive exams and secured a job as a government school teacher. However, his life took a drastic turn when he was abducted and coerced into marrying a woman named Ganjan.

Unish Kumar stated that while he was on his way to school, two vehicles intercepted him, and some individuals forcibly took him away. Afterward, they insisted that he marry Ganjan.

Ganjan, the woman who was married to Unish, claimed that the two had been in a relationship for four years, during which Unish had promised to marry her. She said that during their time together, they had made plans for marriage, but when she discussed it with her family and approached Unish, he refused to marry her.

Three days earlier, Ganjan’s family had reportedly seen the couple together, after which they forcibly abducted Unish and married him to Ganjan in a temple. A video of the incident went viral, showing Unish performing wedding rituals under pressure according to Hindu traditions.

After the marriage, Ganjan went to Unish’s house with her family, but his family rejected her as a daughter-in-law, while Unish fled from the scene.

Reports from Indian media indicate that Ganjan has filed a complaint with the local police, demanding justice.

Unish has denied any relationship with Ganjan, stating that she had harassed and stalked him. He further claimed that he was beaten and forced into the marriage by the kidnappers.

This incident adds to the rising number of forced marriage cases in Bihar, with reports indicating that such incidents are increasing rapidly in 2024, with the highest number of forced marriage cases recorded this year.
