TELAVIV: Israeli media has disclosed details from a secret report about the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.
The report claims that months of preparation went into the plot. However, on the night of the assassination, an unexpected failure in the air conditioning (AC) unit in Haniyeh’s room disrupted the plan. Haniyeh left the room to another due to the faulty AC unit.
Assassination Plan Failed Temporarily
Israeli media reports suggest that a small remote-controlled bomb was planted in Haniyeh’s room, intended to detonate while he was inside. The bomb would only have worked had he remained in his original location.Due to the AC failure and his temporary absence, the plot was delayed.
Eventual Attack on Haniyeh’s Room
Once the AC unit was repaired, Haniyeh returned to his room. At 1:30 a.m., the bomb was remotely detonated.
