CANBERRA: Former Pakistan red-ball team head coach, Jason Gillespie, has disclosed the reasons for his resignation, citing communication issues and lack of involvement in crucial decisions as key factors.

In an interview Jason expressed frustration over being kept in the dark about High-Performance Coach Tim Nielsen’s departure. “I was not informed about the decision not to retain Nielsen. This lack of communication deeply unsettled me and made my role more challenging,” he said.

Reflecting on his time with the Pakistan team, Gillespie admitted that incidents like this made him question his relevance. “It made me wonder if I was even needed anymore. The purpose of my coaching role seemed to be fading away. My job felt reduced to just conducting catching practice sessions before matches,” he added.

Gillespie emphasized the importance of strong communication between the head coach and key stakeholders, including selectors. He highlighted the need to be informed of squad decisions at least a day in advance to effectively plan and execute strategies.

“After the first match against England, I learned about the formation of a new selection committee through a text message sent to the team group. Even the decision to drop Babar Azam was made by the new committee without consulting me,” Gillespie said.

The former head coach underlined the difficulties of working in an environment where crucial updates were not shared with the head coach. “Without clear communication and coordination, fulfilling my responsibilities became increasingly difficult,” he concluded.
