DUBAI: Jay Shah, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has officially taken over as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He succeeded Greg Barclay, who had held the position for the last two years.
After assuming the role, Jay Shah thanked the ICC Board members for their support and trust. He expressed his excitement about leading the world cricket body and promised to work for the betterment of the sport on a global scale.
Shah, who has been involved in Indian cricket administration for several years, was elected unopposed as the new ICC Chairman. His appointment was confirmed after a meeting of the ICC Board, where all members supported his nomination.
JAY SHAH STATEMENT
In his statement, Jay Shah said, “I am grateful to the ICC Board for placing their trust in me. I look forward to working with all the member countries to help grow the game of cricket and take it to new heights.”
He added that his vision for cricket’s future involves promoting the sport in non-traditional cricket countries and expanding its global reach. Shah emphasized the importance of supporting emerging nations and helping them develop competitive cricketing structures.
Jay Shah’s appointment is seen as a significant move for the ICC, especially considering India’s influence in world cricket. Under his leadership, the BCCI has made numerous improvements to Indian cricket, and many expect him to bring a similar level of success to the ICC.
Greg Barclay, who stepped down as Chairman, expressed his gratitude to the ICC Board and all members for their cooperation during his tenure. Barclay’s leadership helped guide the ICC through some difficult challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the disruption it caused to global cricket.
With Shah now at the helm, the cricketing world will be watching closely to see how his leadership shapes the future of international cricket.
