KABUL: Khalil Haqqani, the Taliban’s refugee minister, was killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul on Wednesday, according to the interior ministry.
The bomber, posing as a visitor, detonated the explosive while Haqqani was working, killing six others. Haqqani was a prominent figure within the Haqqani network, which has long been involved in major attacks across Afghanistan.
The Haqqani network, designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S., has caused ongoing tensions within the Taliban. Some factions, including those in Kabul, seek engagement with the international community, while others, notably in Kandahar, oppose such cooperation.
