MOSCOW: The Kremlin refused to comment on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s whereabouts, following reports of his asylum in Russia.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters there was “nothing to say” about Assad’s location, offering no clarity.
When asked if President Vladimir Putin was involved in the asylum decision, Peskov confirmed only Putin could make such decisions, but declined further details.
An official source told CNN that Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow, granted asylum for “humanitarian reasons.”
Regarding a possible meeting between Putin and Assad, Peskov stated there was no such meeting on Putin’s schedule.
The Kremlin also acknowledged challenges related to its military bases in Syria, but refused to confirm any future plans for them.
