MANHATTAN: Luigi Mangione has hired Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a seasoned New York attorney, to represent him in a second-degree murder case. This charge stems from the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, CNN reported.

Friedman Agnifilo is known for her specializing in New York City’s criminal justice system.

A source familiar with the case remarked, “She has as much experience as any human being, especially in state court.”

In the latest developments, new evidence has emerged connecting Luigi Mangione to the crime scene. Authorities confirmed the 3D-printed gun found on him matches shell casings recovered from the Midtown Manhattan scene. His fingerprints also matched those found near the crime scene.

These findings add pressure on Mangione as he remains in custody in Pennsylvania, fighting extradition to New York. As of Friday, sources indicated he may waive extradition next week, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Mangione is also facing multiple charges, including forging documents and illegally possessing a firearm.

Friedman Agnifilo’s legal team has also not revealed who is financing Mangione’s defense. Despite these charges, he still has legal options available, with Pennsylvania courts granting him 14 days to file a writ of habeas corpus. If filed, this could lead to a hearing to determine whether his detention is justified.

Mangione’s future now hinges on the legal battle ahead. As he fights extradition, he faces a tough road ahead with growing evidence linking him to the murder.
