BAKU: A passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, traveling from Azerbaijan to Russia, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. The Embraer 190 aircraft, flight J2-8243, was en route from Baku to Grozny, Russia, when it was forced to make an emergency landing about 3 km (1.8 miles) outside Aktau, after being rerouted due to fog in Grozny.

The crash, which occurred in a remote area, resulted in a fiery explosion upon impact, with thick black smoke rising into the sky. According to Kazakh authorities, 67 passengers and five crew members were on board, and twelve people survived the crash.

Emergency services quickly extinguished the fire, and survivors are now receiving treatment at a local hospital. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, including the possibility of a technical malfunction, though other factors remain under consideration.
