WASHINGTON:Â Donald Trump has chosen Kash Patel as his pick for FBI Director, aiming to remove current head Christopher Wray before the end of his 10-year term. Patel, a strong supporter of Trump, has promised to shake up the FBI by firing top officials and prosecuting agents he believes have misused their power.
Trump praised Patel, saying he has spent his career exposing corruption and protecting the American people.
The move could face resistance in the Senate, where Patel’s nomination will be debated next year. This is the first step in what Trump hopes will be a broader overhaul of the FBI, an agency with which he has frequently clashed.
Trump also announced plans to appoint Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister to head the Drug Enforcement Administration, replacing Biden appointee Anne Milgram.
Patel’s nomination signals Trump’s intention to bring significant changes to the FBI, possibly seeking retribution against political rivals.
