Belleville, NJ: An air of mystery hangs over New Jersey as Mayor Michael Melham of Belleville disclosed alarming details about a series of mysterious drones hovering over critical infrastructure in the state. The issue has garnered attention at both state and federal levels, prompting a briefing at New Jersey State Police Headquarters attended by over 500 mayors and state officials. Despite the high-profile gathering, clarity remains elusive.
“We were told we’d know everything the state knows, but it could’ve been a five-minute Zoom meeting—we learned very little,” Mayor Melham said. Subsequent federal briefings, including one from the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, have similarly yielded minimal information, adding to the growing unease.
Critical Infrastructure Targeted
The drones are reported to have hovered over key sites, including nuclear plants, reservoirs, and the Picatinny Arsenal. According to Mayor Melham, New Jersey State Police helicopters have attempted to pursue the drones, only to witness them mysteriously vanish. Adding to the intrigue, these drones are not emitting radio frequencies, which rules out most commercially available devices and makes them difficult to track or disable.
Speculation and Security Concerns
Speculation about the drones’ origins and purpose is running rampant. While some federal officials claim there is “nothing nefarious” about the sightings, the House Intelligence Committee recently held a classified three-hour meeting on the matter. Contradicting assurances from the Biden administration, certain lawmakers, including the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, have suggested the drones could be linked to Chinese or Iranian entities.
“This lack of transparency is fueling conspiracy theories,” Mayor Melham said. “The statements from federal officials are conflicting, with one Congressman suggesting a potential Iranian ‘mothership’ off the coast. It’s impossible to get a straight story.”
Calls for Transparency
Mayor Melham and other local officials are pressing for more openness from federal authorities, particularly as sightings of the drones appear to increase. With advanced technology, high-tech maneuverability, and uncertain intentions, the drones represent both a puzzle and a potential threat.
“New Jersey deserves answers,” said Melham. “This issue demands immediate transparency—not only for mayors but for every resident concerned about the safety and security of their communities.”
As the situation develops, state and local officials continue to demand accountability and clarity from national security agencies. For now, the mystery of New Jersey’s drones remains unresolved.
