Sydney: Vandals attacked a Jewish neighborhood in Sydney overnight, setting a stolen car on fire and scrawling antisemitic graffiti on walls. Authorities quickly responded, denouncing the attack and reaffirming that antisemitism has no place in Australia’s multicultural society.

The attack occurred in the eastern suburb of Woollahra, following a series of similar incidents in the region. It comes just days after an arson attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on Friday and other antisemitic acts in Sydney.

In response to the increasing number of incidents, authorities have launched a special task force, Operation Avalite, to address antisemitism. The task force will focus on increasing patrols around Jewish sites, including synagogues and schools.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, speaking alongside police and Jewish community leaders, condemned the attack as a deliberate act to instill fear in the community. He assured Israel’s Ambassador to Australia, Amir Maimon, that the government was taking the matter seriously.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also spoke out, stressing that such acts of hatred have no place in Australia. Maimon condemned the growing wave of antisemitism, calling for it to end immediately.
