Canberra: An Australian woman faces charges after allegedly poisoning a child and posting videos of her distress online.

Alleged Poisoning of Infant

Police claim the 34-year-old woman from Sunshine Coast gave unauthorized prescription medications to a one-year-old girl.

The child, who was known to the woman, reportedly suffered without medical approval from doctors, police stated Thursday.

Disregarding Medical Advice

It is also alleged the woman went to great lengths to obtain unauthorised drugs, including medications for someone else.

Police suggest the woman administered these drugs to the child between August 6 and October 15, 2024.

Filming and Exploiting the Baby’s Pain

Police stated the woman filmed and posted videos of the child enduring significant pain and suffering during the period.

The videos were allegedly used to gain viewers, attract followers, and solicit donations from the online community.

Testing and Arrest

Following tests on January 7 that confirmed the presence of unauthorized drugs, authorities arrested the woman on Thursday.

Multiple Charges Filed

The woman has been charged with five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, among other serious offenses.

She faces three counts of preparing for dangerous crimes and charges for child exploitation, torture, and fraud.

Investigation and Protection Efforts

Detective Inspector Paul Dalton from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit said they handle “the worst offences against children.”

“We will do everything possible to protect the child and ensure the offender is held accountable,” Dalton remarked.

No Tolerance for Child Harm

Dalton added there is no justification for harming a vulnerable child, especially one so dependent on care and survival.

Court Appearance and Detention

On Friday, the woman appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court, where she was remanded in custody until January 28.
