Rome: Search teams discovered the body of one British hiker after he went missing in the Italian Alps.
The two men, Aziz Ziriat, 36, and Sam Harris, 35, were reported missing after not boarding a flight home.
Authorities only received an alert about the missing hikers on January 6, five days after their hike began.
Rescue efforts faced significant delays due to snowfall, fog, and avalanche warnings, hampering initial progress.

Continued Search for Missing Friend
Guided by phone recordings, rescue teams discovered the backpacks and the body of one hiker buried in the snow.
Search teams continued their efforts to locate Harris, the second missing hiker, who remains unaccounted for.
Both men were experienced hikers who had planned a New Year’s Day trip in the Adamello range.
Their trek involved moving between mountain huts, and they had expected to be off the grid, according to friends.

Challenges in Rescue Operations
On January 7, poor visibility delayed the helicopter, causing it to return before reaching the search area.
The ground rescue teams faced increased risks, with avalanche warnings complicating their ability to continue the search.
The missing hikers were last reported in the Adamello range, a rugged area along the border of Lombardy.
The highest point of the range is Mt. Adamello, standing at 3,539 meters (11,611 feet) in elevation.

The Hikers’ Journey
Relatives shared that the men had an established love for hiking in remote areas, often avoiding technology.
Joe Stone, a friend of Ziriat’s, remarked it wasn’t surprising the hikers had no signal during their journey.
Rescue crews said it was likely the hikers got caught in treacherous conditions in the mountain range.
Despite facing tough weather, the search crews are determined to continue locating Harris as soon as possible.
