Hoi An: A British woman and her South African fiancé were discovered dead in a holiday villa in Hoi An, Vietnam, on December 26, according to local authorities.
Tragic Discovery
Greta Marie Otteson, 33, was found lifeless on a bed in a first-floor room, while her fiancé, Els Arno Quinton, 36, was discovered in another locked room within the villa. The staff alerted authorities at approximately 11:18 local time (04:18 GMT).
Both had been residing at the Hoa Chuong villa in Cam Thanh commune since last summer under long-term temporary residence.
Lives Cut Short
Ms. Otteson worked as a social media manager, and Mr. Quinton was a musician and livestreamer. Their engagement had recently been celebrated, with a video shared on Instagram by Red Eye Studios earlier in December.
Investigation Underway
Initial police reports revealed no signs of external injuries or forced entry. However, several empty wine bottles were reportedly found at the scene. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of death.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed its involvement in supporting Ms. Otteson’s family during this difficult time. A spokesperson stated, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and are in contact with the local authorities.”
A Shocking Loss
The sudden and unexplained deaths have left loved ones and the local community in shock. As investigations continue, the tragic story of Greta Marie Otteson and Els Arno Quinton serves as a reminder of the fragility of life.
