Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has quashed rumors about being on complete bed rest and his potential unavailability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Addressing the speculation, Bumrah took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight.
“I know how easy it is to spread fake news, but this one really made me laugh,” Bumrah wrote, accompanied by laughing emojis, dismissing the circulating reports.
The Rumors and Context
On January 15, several Indian media outlets claimed that Jasprit Bumrah, who has been recovering from a back injury, was on bed rest and unlikely to participate in the Champions Trophy.
Reports suggested that the pacer sustained the back injury during the Sydney Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Throughout the series, Bumrah bowled an impressive 151.2 overs across five matches, emerging as the most successful bowler with 32 wickets.
Further speculation indicated that updates on Bumrah’s back condition were “not encouraging” and that medical experts had advised him to avoid rushing his return to cricket, recommending complete bed rest.
Concerns Over Workload
Bumrah’s workload during the Australia series sparked discussions among former Indian cricketers, especially after the fourth Test at the MCG, where India suffered a 184-run defeat.
India’s captain Rohit Sharma, addressing these concerns post the Boxing Day Test, acknowledged the heavy workload on Bumrah:
“Yeah, there is [a risk]. To be honest, he has bowled a lot of overs. There is no doubt about it. But again, every Test match we play, we keep that in mind… If somebody is in such great form, you want to maximize that form as much as you can.”
Bumrah’s Commitment
Despite ongoing recovery, Bumrah’s dismissal of these reports showcases his focus and determination to return to the field. Known for his resilience and unmatched skill as one of India’s premier pacers, his recovery journey is being closely monitored by fans and cricket experts alike.
As India prepares for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the hope remains that Bumrah will make a strong comeback and continue his stellar contributions to the team.
