Tallahassee: Judge Aileen Cannon ruled that the full report into Donald Trump’s election subversion investigation will be released.
Cannon decided to not block the release of special counsel Jack Smith‘s findings about Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The report includes investigations into Trump’s alleged involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot and its aftermath.
However, a portion of the report, concerning classified documents, will remain under review.

Court Hearing on Classified Documents Scheduled

Judge Cannon set a hearing for this Friday in her Florida courtroom.
The hearing will address whether Attorney General Merrick Garland can share parts of the report on Mar-a-Lago’s classified documents.
Garland planned to share the documents with selected lawmakers privately, under strict non-disclosure terms.
However, the Justice Department is currently prohibited from disclosing the report about classified documents to any external parties.

Concern Over Leaks and Privacy

Judge Cannon expressed reservations about releasing documents without a full court hearing.
She rejected the idea of granting Congress members full access to the classified sections without appropriate review.
Garland’s original proposal was for both Republican and Democratic leaders of House and Senate Judiciary Committees to view the report.
However, Garland stated that he would ensure any shared information would be kept private until further review.

Special Counsel’s Allegations of Election Subversion

In his investigation, special counsel Jack Smith presented evidence of a multi-stage effort by Trump.
Trump, with alleged co-conspirators, attempted to subvert the peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 election.
The investigation examines a variety of measures Trump and others allegedly took to reverse the election results.
Smith’s findings point to the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, by Trump supporters as the culmination.

Case Ends After Supreme Court’s Intervention

The investigation was delayed due to a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court in the summer.
After Election Day, the special counsel ended the case involving Trump and the Capitol insurrection.
Though the probe provided substantial information, it did not result in criminal charges at the time.
With the new court decisions, this investigation into Trump’s actions regarding election interference is reaching its final stages.
