Toronto: Ontario Premier Doug Ford reacted to Donald Trump’s remarks about making Canada the 51st U.S. state.
Ford jokingly offered Trump to buy Alaska and Minnesota instead, saying, “I’m just kidding.”
He acknowledged Trump’s preference for bold comments but assured such plans would never happen under his watch.
Ford expressed concern over potential U.S. taxes on Canada, warning of possible tough countermeasures.

Focus on Border Security and Relations

The Ontario government has increased security along the Canada-U.S. border to prevent illegal activities.
Ford stated he is coordinating with other premiers on issues like immigration, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling.
He stressed the importance of maintaining secure and cooperative borders between the two nations.
Ford warned against jeopardizing the strong friendship between Canada and the United States.

Calls for Collaboration and Prosperity
In a later social media post, Ford emphasized a vision of mutual prosperity for Canada and the U.S.
He highlighted Canada’s vital resources, including oil, minerals, and nuclear energy, as assets for global success.
“Let’s work together to make both nations the richest, safest, and most successful countries,” Ford wrote.
The Premier called for enhanced cooperation to ensure shared growth and security across borders.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has suggested that Canada officially become the 51st state of the United States. His comments followed the resignation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who stepped down from his role as leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister but will continue as an interim leader until a new party head is selected.

In a statement shared on social media platform Trump stated that Canadians would welcome the opportunity to join the U.S. as a new state. According to Trump, such a merger would offer significant economic and security benefits for both nations.

“Canada is facing substantial trade losses, and Trudeau realized this before resigning. Joining the U.S. would be a win-win,” Trump wrote. He further claimed that becoming part of the United States would allow Canadians to pay lower taxes and avoid economic setbacks.
