Los Angeles: The remains of 95-year-old Dalyce Curry were discovered amidst the charred ruins of her Altadena home, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County coroner on Sunday evening. CNN affiliate KABC reported the tragic news on Monday, shedding light on the devastating aftermath of the fire that engulfed Curry’s residence.
Curry, lovingly known as “Momma D,” was reported missing after the fire. Her granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, who also served as her part-time caregiver, expressed heartbreak over the loss. Kelley had last dropped Curry off at her home late at night following a hospital visit, unaware of the imminent disaster.
After hearing about power outages, Kelley returned to check on her grandmother and faced heartbreaking news. An officer at the scene informed her that the property had been completely destroyed. “It was total devastation,” Kelley shared with KABC, adding that the only thing left standing was her grandmother’s cherished blue Cadillac.
Curry’s life was one of resilience and vibrancy. As a member of Old Black Hollywood during the 1950s, she appeared as an extra in iconic films such as The Ten Commandments and Lady Sings the Blues. Her presence was cherished not only by her family but also by those who knew her story.
The LA County Medical Examiner has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. However, the community mourns the loss of a beloved elder whose life and legacy remain etched in their hearts.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers posed by wildfires and the urgent need for community support in preventing such devastating losses.
