WASHINGTON: Donald Trump appointed lawyer Stanley Woodward to join his White House legal team on Saturday. Woodward has previously defended several of Trump’s close allies. He has also represented individuals linked to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Trump’s transition team announced Woodward’s new role as an assistant to the president and senior counselor.

Close Work with Chief of Staff
Woodward will collaborate closely with Susie Wiles, Trump’s newly appointed White House chief of staff. His role involves advising the president on legal matters while overseeing other issues. Trump’s legal team continues to expand as his inauguration nears on January 20. Woodward’s appointment is part of the broader restructuring for Trump’s second term.

Woodward’s Previous Legal Experience
Based in Washington, Woodward has represented prominent figures in Trump’s circle over recent years. Notable clients include adviser Dan Scavino and trade adviser Peter Navarro. He has also assisted Walt Nauta, a Trump aide. Woodward defended individuals involved in the January 6 attack, including Oath Keeper Kelly Meggs.

Changes in Legal Leadership
Trump recently made changes to his legal team by naming David Warrington as the top lawyer. Initially, William McGinley was selected, but he switched to work with an outside group. McGinley’s new group is led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Despite these shifts, Trump’s legal restructuring aims to strengthen his administration’s team.

Return of Previous Trump Assistants
Trump also announced the return of three assistants from his first White House term. Robert Gabriel, Nicholas Luna, and William “Beau” Harrison will rejoin his team. These appointments emphasize continuity and loyalty as Trump prepares for his second term.
