Texas: The U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) started its SheBelieves Cup campaign with a solid 2-0 victory over Colombia on Thursday. Rising star Ally Sentnor stole the spotlight with a spectacular long-range goal, securing the win after Catarina Macario’s first-half strike.
Sentnor’s Stunning First International Goal
Ally Sentnor made an unforgettable impact by scoring her first-ever international goal in grand fashion. The 21-year-old picked up the ball in space, advanced towards goal, and unleashed a swerving shot into the net. Her teammates rushed to the sidelines to celebrate the moment with her.
Speaking after the match, Sentnor expressed her joy. “It means the world. I am playing alongside people I’ve idolized my whole life. It’s a full-circle moment,” she said.
Last year, Sentnor was named U.S. Young Female Player of the Year, and her latest performance proved why she’s a rising force in the squad.
Macario Marks Her Return with a Goal
Catarina Macario opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, netting her first international goal in nearly three years. Her journey back to the field has been tough, as she recovered from an ACL injury in 2022 and another knee issue that sidelined her during the Olympics.
Her goal came from a brilliant team move. Teenage sensation Lily Yohannes, making her first USWNT start, delivered a perfect lofted pass to Yazmeen Ryan. Ryan then provided a precise cross for Macario to finish.
“I’m just happy to be back playing,” Macario said. “Scoring feels great, but the biggest joy is being on the field again.”
USWNT’s Winning Streak Continues
With this victory, the USWNT extended its unbeaten run to 21 matches, last losing to Mexico in February 2023. The team, now under coach Emma Hayes, is also chasing a record sixth straight SheBelieves Cup title.
Colombia, featuring talented attackers Linda Caicedo and Mayra RamĂrez, struggled to break through the U.S. defense in what was their debut appearance in the tournament.

Next, the USWNT faces Australia on Sunday, followed by Japan on Wednesday. These matches will test the team’s strength as they continue their pursuit of another SheBelieves Cup triumph.
