DOHA: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has dismissed the idea of deploying European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine.

Speaking at a news conference in Qatar, Lavrov said Russia does not view this as a possible solution.

He claimed such discussions are only meant to escalate the conflict instead of promoting peace.

According to Reuters, Lavrov described these talks as “empty talk” and a “deceit.”

He further alleged that these discussions aim to supply Ukraine with more weapons.

Lavrov’s Concerns

Lavrov insisted that the idea of European peacekeepers is not a genuine effort for peace.

Instead, he believes it is a strategy to increase tensions in the region.

He suggested that Western nations are not working toward a true resolution.

Lavrov also accused them of using these discussions to justify military support for Ukraine.

He warned that such actions would not lead to any real negotiations.

Trump’s Statements

US President Donald Trump recently commented on the possibility of peacekeepers in Ukraine.

On Tuesday, he said a peace deal would require “some form of peacekeeping” forces in Ukraine.

This statement followed his remarks on Monday about Russia being open to European peacekeepers.

Trump’s comments have caused confusion over Russia’s stance on the issue.

Lavrov’s latest remarks strongly contradict Trump’s previous statement.

Russia’s Position

Lavrov made it clear that Moscow will not accept European forces in Ukraine.

He emphasized that such plans do not align with Russia’s vision for resolving the conflict.

According to Lavrov, European peacekeepers would only escalate tensions further.

He accused Western countries of misleading the public about their true intentions.

Russia insists that diplomatic efforts should not involve external military presence.

Conflict Escalation

Lavrov believes peacekeepers could worsen the situation rather than stabilize it.

He stated that deploying foreign troops might increase hostilities.

Russia claims that the West is using Ukraine as a battleground for political interests.

Lavrov argues that weapons supplies are being disguised as peace efforts.

He urged the West to engage in direct negotiations instead.

Future Negotiations

Russia says it prefers diplomatic discussions without external military involvement.

Lavrov called for realistic solutions that respect Russia’s security concerns.

He suggested that any peace deal should involve direct talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Moscow remains skeptical of Western-led peace initiatives.

For now, Russia firmly opposes any European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
