WASHINGTON: During his trip to New Orleans, Trump signed a proclamation renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
He designated 9 February as ‘Gulf of America Day’ to celebrate the renaming.
Trump signed the order while his plane flew over the Gulf of Mexico.
Mexico strongly opposed the move, calling it legally invalid under UN regulations.

Mexico’s Response
Mexican officials stated the US lacks authority to rename international waters.
According to UN maritime laws, a nation’s territory extends only 12 nautical miles from its coastline.
Mexico argues that the Gulf of Mexico belongs to multiple nations, not just the US.
They plan to raise the issue with international bodies to challenge Trump’s decision.

Putin Talks
Trump was asked if he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He declined to share details, saying, “I don’t want to talk about it.”
Trump hinted that discussions with Russia were progressing, but refused further comments.
He suggested a future meeting with Putin at the “appropriate time.”

Controversial Claims
Trump repeated his unusual suggestion that the US could annex Canada and Gaza.
He stated Canada would be better off as the 51st US state.
Trump also reiterated his commitment to purchasing and owning Gaza.
These remarks sparked global reactions, with leaders questioning his intentions.
