WASHINGTON: Donald Trump urged Israel to cancel the ceasefire if Hamas does not release all hostages by Saturday at noon. Hamas recently threatened to delay the next hostage release, accusing Israel of violating the agreement. Trump said Israel should abandon the deal if hostages are not freed completely.
Strong Message to Hamas
“If they’re not returned by Saturday at 12, all hell is going to break out,” Trump told reporters. He insisted that all hostages must be released at once, not in small groups. When asked about his statement, he said, “You’ll find out, and they’ll find out.”
Concerns Over Hostages
Trump expressed doubts that many hostages remain alive. “I think a lot of the hostages are dead,” he stated. His envoy, Steve Witkoff, helped negotiate the ceasefire under Joe Biden’s administration.
Trump’s Plan for Gaza
Trump proposed permanently displacing Palestinians and placing Gaza under U.S. control. He said Palestinians would not have the right to return under his plan. “No, they wouldn’t,” he told Fox News when asked about Palestinian return rights.
Alternative Housing
Trump claimed his plan would provide better housing for displaced Palestinians. “They will have much better housing,” he said. His comments drew widespread international criticism, especially after announcing them alongside Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Threat to Cut Aid
Trump suggested cutting aid to Jordan and Egypt if they refuse to accept Palestinian refugees. “Maybe, sure why not?” he said when asked about withholding American funds. He believes he can negotiate a deal with both nations.
Financial Pressure on Allies
Trump emphasized U.S. financial assistance to Jordan and Egypt. “We give them billions and billions of dollars a year,” he stated. Jordan’s King Abdullah and other Arab leaders strongly rejected Trump’s proposal.
Trump Sees Gaza as Real Estate
Trump later reinforced his stance, describing Gaza as prime real estate. “Think of it as a big real estate site,” he told reporters. He insisted the U.S. would control and gradually develop the region.
Vision for Middle East Stability
Trump believes his plan will stabilize the Middle East. “We’re in no rush—develop it slowly,” he said. His remarks have increased uncertainty over the ceasefire and Gaza’s future.
