Kharkiv: Russia launched 161 drones in a massive overnight drone attack on Ukraine, the Ukrainian military reported on Monday. The strikes targeted key infrastructure and residential areas, causing destruction and casualties.
Kharkiv and Kherson Hit Hard
Missiles struck critical infrastructure in the northeastern Kharkiv region. In Kherson, a guided bomb hit the entrance of a high-rise building, leading to injuries and possible fatalities. Emergency services are still assessing the damage and assisting victims.
Energy Infrastructure Targeted
Ukraine’s Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, stated that Russian attacks damaged gas production facilities.
“The purpose of these criminal attacks is to stop the production of gas needed to meet the domestic needs of citizens and central heating,” Galushchenko said on social media.
The strikes on energy facilities come as Ukraine faces freezing winter temperatures, making heating and power supply critical for millions of residents.
Fierce Fighting on the Frontlines
Ukraine’s military reported intense battles, with 122 clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces in the past 24 hours. The ongoing conflict remains fierce, with both sides suffering heavy losses.
Russia’s Continued Offensive
Russia has intensified its attacks in recent weeks, using drones and missiles to target Ukraine’s infrastructure. The overnight assault is one of the largest in recent months, showing Moscow’s continued push to weaken Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Ukraine’s Response
Ukraine continues to bolster its air defenses and retaliate against Russian forces. Western allies have pledged more military aid, including advanced air defense systems, to help Ukraine counter these attacks.
As the war rages on, Ukraine remains resilient. However, the destruction of energy facilities and civilian infrastructure raises concerns about the long-term impact on the country’s economy and people.
