Richmond: A Carrollton woman experienced a surprising stroke of luck when she purchased a lottery ticket she hadn’t intended to buy. Kelly Lindsay wanted to play her favorite Virginia Lottery scratcher but was mistakenly given a different ticket. She wasn’t pleased about the mix-up but decided to scratch it anyway.
Moments later, she discovered she had won the $2 million top prize in the Money Blitz game.
“I wasn’t happy at first, but I quickly got over that!” Lindsay told Virginia Lottery officials while claiming her prize.
Prize Options
Lindsay had two choices for receiving her winnings. She could either take the full $2 million in annual payments over 30 years or a lump sum of $1.25 million before taxes. She chose the cash option.
Her winning ticket was purchased at Race Way Carrollton, located at 13028 Carrollton Boulevard.
This was the second $2 million top prize won in the Money Blitz game. One top prize remains unclaimed.

The odds of winning the $2 million grand prize in Money Blitz are 1 in 1,142,400. However, the overall chances of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.29.
The Virginia Lottery funds K-12 education with all its profits. Last fiscal year, Lindsay’s home county, Isle of Wight, received over $3.7 million from lottery proceeds to support local schools.

In the 2024 fiscal year, the Virginia Lottery generated more than $934 million for K-12 education. This funding accounts for about 10 percent of the state’s total school budget.
