Bangkok: A devastating building collapse in Bangkok has left at least eight people dead and 110 trapped under rubble, officials said.
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed the casualties and stated that rescue crews are working tirelessly to free survivors.
Rescue Efforts
So far, 12 individuals have been rescued, but many remain beneath the collapsed structure.
Anutin warned that more bodies could be discovered as teams carefully remove debris.
Rescue teams are using special techniques to prevent further collapses caused by shifting structural elements.
“We will work through the night to locate and rescue survivors,” Anutin assured reporters.
Cause of Collapse
The building, near Chatuchak Park, was under construction when it collapsed following Myanmar’s powerful earthquake.
Officials cited a failure in the lower columns as the primary reason for the structural failure.
Government engineers inspected other buildings but found no immediate threats of similar collapses.
Authorities are also reviewing public buildings and mass transit systems for safety.
Impact of Myanmar’s Quake
Earlier on Friday, Thailand’s Prime Minister said the earthquake’s impact has eased, allowing citizens to return home safely.
The Myanmar quake had ripple effects in Thailand, causing infrastructure concerns and prompting emergency response efforts.
Emergency teams continue to assess the extent of damage caused by the tremor across the country.
As search and rescue operations continue in Bangkok, families anxiously await news of their loved ones.
