Indianapolis: A 41-year-old Indiana woman was found alive after being trapped in her crashed car for six days.
Brieonna Cassell disappeared after leaving her mother’s house to visit a friend near Wheatfield and DeMotte.
Her vehicle had veered off the road, making it impossible for passing drivers to notice.
Cassell’s cries for help went unheard as she remained hidden from view.
She was unable to move her legs due to injuries from the accident.
Resourceful Actions
Cassell’s phone lost power, leaving her stranded without a way to call for help.
To stay alive, she used her sweater to collect water from a nearby creek.
She wrung the soaked fabric into her mouth to stay hydrated.
Her parents said she showed incredible resilience despite her severe injuries.
Authorities confirmed Cassell remained conscious throughout her ordeal.
Rescue Mission
Johnny Martinez, operating drainage equipment, discovered Cassell’s crashed car.
He quickly alerted his supervisor, Jeremy Vanderwell, a fire chief in Morocco, Indiana.
Together, they found Cassell inside her vehicle, conscious and able to speak.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed she survived six days before being found.
Officials said the incident highlights the importance of thorough search efforts.
Hospital Treatment
Cassell was airlifted to a Chicago hospital for emergency medical care.
Doctors placed her in the ICU due to her severe injuries.
She suffered broken ribs, wrist fractures, and significant leg injuries.
WLS reported that she is scheduled for surgery to address her wounds.
Her recovery process is expected to be lengthy, her family stated.
Family’s Reaction
Cassell’s mother, Kim Brown, sensed something was wrong when she didn’t return.
“I felt it in my gut,” Brown said at a press conference.
Her father, Delmar Caldwell, praised her survival instincts and determination.
“It’s going to be a long road to recovery,” Caldwell told reporters.
The family is relieved and grateful for the rescuers who found her.
