Two violent criminals have been sentenced in separate cases in Sussex. In Hastings, Nicky Warnes was jailed for life after stabbing three people in an unprovoked attack. Meanwhile, in Lancing, Luke Maddran received over six years in prison for years of controlling abuse and threats to kill his victim and family. Both cases highlight the swift action taken by law enforcement to remove dangerous offenders from the streets.

Hastings Stabbing Incident

A Hastings man has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing three people in an unprovoked attack. Nicky Warnes, 46, attacked two men at a late-night restaurant on Havelock Road. A woman who tried to intervene was also stabbed in the arm.

Victims’ Suffering

All three victims were hospitalized, with one suffering a collapsed lung. A victim recalled, “We were just walking past when he attacked us.”

Quick Arrest and Charges

Warnes attempted to hide the knife in a bin, but police swiftly arrested him. He was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a weapon.

Court Ruling

Warnes pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Hove Crown Court on March 19. He received a life sentence, serving a minimum of eight years.

Police Statement

Detective Sergeant Auryn Liddiard called the attack “unprovoked and violent” and praised the woman’s bravery and police efficiency.

Lancing Man’s Violent Crimes

In a separate case, a Lancing man has been jailed for years of abuse and threats to kill. Luke Maddran, 38, subjected a woman to five years of physical and psychological torment.

Chilling Threats

On September 17, 2024, the victim reported that Maddran was coming to kill her and her children. She also disclosed threats against her family and an attempt to kidnap her son.

Arrest and Charges

Maddran also threatened his own family, who feared he would act. He was arrested the same day and charged with strangulation, coercive behavior, bodily harm, and threats.

Sentencing Outcome

Maddran pleaded guilty at Hove Trial Centre and was sentenced on February 24 to six years and two months in prison. He also received a restraining order and was banned from West Sussex for 14 years.

Call for Action

Detective Inspector Matt Phelps labeled Maddran “extremely dangerous” and urged domestic violence victims to report abuse for protection.
