ISLAMABAD: PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram revealed that 12 PTI workers were killed during recent protests in Islamabad. He stated that the government fired directly at peaceful protesters, and many PTI workers are still missing.
Akram confirmed that 12 workers, including Mobeen Malik and Abdul Qadir, lost their lives in the protests. He said, “We have the names and evidence of the martyrs.” He described the situation at D-Chowk as “a scene like Karbala,” noting that protesters were unprepared for live gunfire.
He also claimed that more than 5,000 PTI workers were arrested before November 24, and that an attack occurred on the Chief Minister’s car. Security forces, including Punjab Rangers, were deployed in KP during the protests.
Akram added that the government was trying to suppress evidence of the killings. He said that such brutal treatment of protesters had never occurred in Pakistan before.
The list of deceased workers included Mobeen Malik from Abbottabad, Abdul Qadir from KP, and others from Islamabad, Charsadda, and other regions. Akram mentioned that videos of their funerals and evidence of gunshots around D-Chowk were available.
He also said that the official death toll may be lower, but the actual number is likely higher. Many more protesters are still missing, with some arrested and others severely injured. Akram warned that the death toll could rise as more information is confirmed.
