Port-au-Prince (HAITI): Gang leader orders massacre of elderly after claims of black magic, with UN reporting gang’s stronghold in the area.
In Haiti’s Cité Soleil slum, gang leader Monel Mekano Felix orchestrated the killing of 184 elderly people, aged over 60. The victims were accused of practicing witchcraft after a local priest blamed them for the gang leader’s son’s illness. According to the National Human Rights Defense Network, all victims were killed with sharp weapons. The gang, with around 300 members, controls the area, making it difficult for residents to report the killings.
