Mexico City:Â A California couple visiting Mexico for the December holidays was fatally shot in Michoacan on Wednesday, local authorities confirmed.
The 51-year-old woman died at the scene inside a vehicle, while her 53-year-old husband succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital, according to a spokesperson for the Michoacan Prosecutor’s Office.
The couple had been in Michoacan, a state on Mexico’s Pacific coast, for several days. Their identities and hometown in California have not been disclosed.
Authorities are investigating the shooting but have not identified any suspects. The prosecutor’s office plans to collaborate with US authorities as the investigation continues.
