Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has granted bail to Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the Toshakhana Case 2. The hearing was conducted by Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, where Imran Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, and the FIA prosecutor were present in court.
During the proceedings, the court inquired about the action taken against the three customs officers who had misquoted the value of the gifts. In response, the FIA prosecutor stated that although the customs officers were negligent, their actions did not amount to criminal misconduct. He clarified that the person who personally gained financially from the transaction was the one who committed criminal misconduct.
The prosecutor also informed the court that the Bulgarian jewelry set was illegally kept and not deposited in the Toshakhana as required.
Additionally, the FIA prosecutor mentioned that although the media had already speculated that the bail would be granted, the court should make its decision independently. In response, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb remarked that the media should exclude itself from influencing judicial decisions, adding that media outlets rely on sensationalism for their business.
After hearing the arguments, the court granted Imran Khan bail in the Toshakhana Case 2.
