WASHINGTON: Acting US Attorney Ed Martin announced Friday that he will investigate individuals referred to him by Elon Musk.
Martin confirmed his decision in a letter posted on X, addressing Musk’s concerns over potential criminal activity.
“Thank you for referring individuals who may be stealing government property or threatening employees,” Martin wrote.
He stated that an official inquiry would begin immediately following Musk’s referral.
Ethical Concerns
Martin emphasized that all individuals found guilty of illegal or unethical actions will face legal consequences.
He assured that the Justice Department would thoroughly investigate each case before taking further action.
His letter follows growing tensions surrounding Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
DOGE has been accused of disrupting government functions by accessing systems and encouraging resignations.
Agency Disruptions
Musk’s DOGE has reportedly taken steps to dismantle the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Many government employees have voiced confusion and frustration over DOGE’s actions in recent weeks.
The agency’s involvement has sparked concerns about accountability, oversight, and potential misuse of authority.
Despite criticism, Musk and his supporters argue that DOGE is streamlining government operations.
Support for DOGE
Martin reassured Musk that DOGE employees would receive protection as they implement changes under the Trump administration.
He expressed pride in supporting the agency’s efforts and maintaining security for its workers.
His letter follows another he posted last week, reaffirming the Justice Department’s commitment to protecting DOGE staff.
Martin insisted that government efficiency efforts must continue without interference from external threats.
