Bristol: A 19-year-old woman lost her life in a dog attack inside a flat in Bristol on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services arrived at Cobhorn Drive, Hartcliffe, around 7 PM after reports of a severe dog attack.

Despite paramedics’ efforts, the woman was declared dead at the scene due to critical injuries.

Authorities arrested a man and a woman, both in their 20s, linked to the incident.

They face charges for owning a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused fatal injuries.

Dog Seized

The dog, suspected to be an XL Bully, has been sedated and taken by authorities for further examination.

Police confirmed the arrests also include possession of a banned dog breed.

Neighbour Doreen Tovey called the situation “terrifying” and described heavy police presence.

Gary Steadman, a witness, mentioned hearing screams and described the dog as “big and butch.”

Officials assured residents that increased police patrols will continue in the area.

Ongoing Investigation

Neighbourhood Inspector Terry Murphy expressed condolences to the victim’s grieving family.

Authorities have assigned a family liaison officer to support them during the investigation.

Murphy commended emergency responders for their efforts in trying to save the victim.

He confirmed Cobhorn Drive was closed overnight for investigative purposes.

Residents were urged to approach officers if they had concerns about safety.

Another XL Bully Attack

On Monday, an 84-year-old man was severely injured in a dog attack in Warrington.

A suspected XL Bully dragged him into a garden on Bardsley Avenue, causing significant injuries.

Police responded by fatally shooting the attacking dog and another aggressive animal nearby.

A third, smaller dog was seized by authorities for further examination.

The incident has reignited concerns about the dangers of XL Bully dogs.

Breed Ban

In February 2024, England and Wales officially banned XL Bully dogs due to rising attacks.

Owning one without an exemption certificate is now illegal under the new regulations.

Selling, abandoning, giving away, or breeding XL Bullies is strictly prohibited.

Owners must also leash and muzzle their XL Bullies in public at all times.

Authorities continue to enforce the ban to prevent further tragic incidents.
